The role

The University of Bristol is looking to recruit a highly motivated individual to help support the co-ordination and delivery of the University’s open research initiatives and practices within and outside of the organisation. The Open Research Community Manager will work within the University of Bristol (UoB) and the wider UK Reproducibility Network (UKRN), a national peer-led consortium of which UoB is a member and lead organisation.

The postholder will act as a persuasive and passionate advocate for the Network here at Bristol across all disciplines, while at the same time demonstrating the value of policy changes and training interventions for Senior stakeholders and decision-makers.

Based in the Library Services Research Support Team at Bristol, they will use their specialist knowledge and in depth understanding of the wide range of open research practices to work locally and nationally with researchers and UKRN staff to accelerate the uptake and promote the benefits of open research through project work, training, promotional activities, and communication channels.

This contract has fixed term funding until 31st July 2024 in the first instance with the expectation of continuation funding for at least another 12 months. This post can be a secondment opportunity.

What will you be doing?

You will work collaboratively with colleagues in the Library Services Research Support team and across the wider University to design, coordinate and deliver training on a wide range of open research topics for a range of users including early career and senior researchers, faculty managers and professional services staff. You will also be expected to liaise with project partners as part of a national consortium in developing, sharing and re-purposing open research training resources and materials, and participate in designing and implementing an evaluation of the training programme.

In collaboration with members of the University Research Committee, the role holder will be responsible for the University’s identification, analysis, understanding and monitoring of Open Research indicators, and will represent and work at a UKRN national level to include Bristol’s contribution to the Open Research Indicators Project, providing details on the aspects of openness and transparency in research that are most relevant to Bristol’s strategic aims and mission. A key part of the role will be the delivery and analysis of detailed reporting, metrics, and management information for open research initiatives in collaboration with existing providers of information across University of Bristol.

You should apply if

You can demonstrate experience of the following:

  • A thorough understanding of the changing open research landscape as it affects researchers across different disciplines
  • Proven analytical and problem-solving capability
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to take ownership of problems and find solutions and build relationships and interact effectively at all levels and with a wide range of internal and external contacts
  • Self-motivated able to work autonomously and to deadlines as well as ability to contribute as team member, motivating and advising others to schedule/deliver project deadlines
  • Experience of the development, coordination and ideally delivery of advocacy and training events/activities
