The Randall Centre for Cell and Molecular Biophysics at King’s College London invites applications for a post at the Lecturer, Senior Lecturer or Reader (equivalent to Associate Professor) level to lead an interdisciplinary, dynamic and forward-looking programme in cell/developmental biophysics or quantitative cell/developmental biology.  

The post will be embedded in the vibrant, highly interdisciplinary and collaborative environment of the Randall Centre within the School of Basic and Medical Biosciences. The successful candidate will join an interactive group of investigators with established strengths in cell biology, biophysics and imaging. They will complement the major strengths of the Randall in applying interdisciplinary research to fundamental discovery biology, such as dynamic cell organisation and function. The appointee will lead a strong, internationally recognised and externally funded research programme that combines cell and developmental biology with other approaches, including quantitative methods, omics or physical sciences such as biophysics. 

 This post will be offered on an indefinite contract.

Skills, knowledge, and experience

Essential criteria for Grade 8, Reader

  • PhD/DPhil Degree
  • Significant, established expertise in integrative cell or developmental biology or related area
  • Experience in leading high impact interdisciplinary research
  • Scientific synergy with current research in the Randall Centre
  • Strong and consistent record of attracting peer reviewed research grant funding or fellowships
  • Outstanding independent track record of publication
  • Ability to define and lead a research area, taking responsibility for planning and undertaking own work
  • Ability to work well as an effective member of a wider multi-disciplinary team and to share and encourage good practice
  • Experience in supervising and developing research students and/or research staff
  • Significant experience in contribution to academic administration

Desirable criteria for Grade 8, Reader

  • Significant experience of delivery of undergraduate teaching
  • Experience of working in collaborative projects across disciplines
  • Experience of serving on professional scientific boards and committees

Essential criteria for Grade 8, Senior Lecturer

  • PhD/DPhil Degree
  • Significant expertise in integrative cell or developmental biology or related area

  • Strong record of attracting peer reviewed research grant funding or fellowships
  • Outstanding track record of publication
  • Ability to define and lead a research area, taking responsibility for planning and undertaking own work

  • Experience in supervising and developing research students and/or research staff
  • Experience in contribution to academic administration

Desirable criteria for Grade 8, Senior Lecturer

Essential Criteria for Grade 7, Lecturer

  • PhD/DPhil Degree
  • Expertise in cell or developmental biology or related area
  • Experience in high impact interdisciplinary research
  • Excellent record of publication in peer reviewed journals
  • Demonstrable contribution to developing peer reviewed funding/fellowship applications.
  • Ability to define and lead a research area, taking responsibility for planning and undertaking own work.
  • Ability to work well as an effective member of a wider multi-disciplinary team and to share and encourage good practice

Desirable criteria for Grade 7, Lecturer

  • Experience of undergraduate and/or post graduate teaching.
  • Record of attracting independent peer reviewed research grant funding
  • Experience in supervising and developing research students and/or staff
