We are pleased to offer this excellent opportunity to join our team at the Academic Unit of Palliative Care in the Division of Primary Care, Palliative Care and Public Health, Leeds Institute of Health Sciences. The post-holder will lead the development of the Leeds Deepend Primary Care for research with under-represented communities. This post is for one year in the first instance. You will work with four GP practices in socioeconomically deprived areas of Leeds to:

  • form the first Leeds Deepend Research Network, a group of practices equipped to help engage under-represented populations in research studies
  • develop a Leeds Deepend Patient and Public Involvement Group to increase opportunity for people from under-represented communities to contribute to PPI for research, and

You will contribute to all aspects of the project delivery as required. The main roles will include skilful liaison with GP practices and with the Yorkshire and Humber CRN to improve research culture and capacity for under-represented populations through primary care. You will build professional and community networks and work closely with patients and members of the public, clinicians, and academics, so will need excellent communication skills. You will offer opportunities to develop research active practices and involvement in NIHR Portfolio studies to four primary care sites, and work with university colleagues to develop future research with a strategic focus on inequalities in palliative care.

Within the Division, we foster an inclusive environment and are committed to diversifying our community. We have identified under-representation of people from minority ethnic communities within the Academic Unit of Palliative Care. This is highly relevant to the post and therefore we particularly welcome applications from people who belong to any minority ethnic community; people who identify as LGBT+; and disabled people. Candidates will always be selected based on merit and ability. The post may be suitable for secondment depending on the circumstances of the successful candidate.
