Corpus Christi College is seeking to appoint a stipendiary Brock Junior Research Fellow in Modern British and/or British World History since 1800, tenable for three years with effect from October 2024.  The appointee will engage in internationally recognized research at the postdoctoral level. They will also play an active role in the teaching and administration of history in the College.  Among other duties, the appointee will:

  • Engage in independent research in the area of Modern British or British World History since 1800;
  • teach for up to 4 hours per week in term (covering the outline papers on 19th and 20th century British history, as well as assisting in the teaching of overview papers on historiography and methodology);
  • serve as undergraduate admissions liaison tutor;
  • assist in the overall administration of the College’s history school;
  • deliver in their first year a Michael Brock lecture to an audience that will include donors, old members, academics and students; and
  • take on administrative, tutorial and pastoral responsibility for a visiting student from the University of Missouri. 

The salary will be in the range £33,966 – 38,205 per annum plus piece rates for teaching over 4 hours per week plus additional allowances. The appointment will be pensionable under the USS scheme. 

Applicants will normally be expected to have submitted for a higher research degree before taking up the post.  The post is an early career position and post-doctoral candidates will normally be within three years of a viva.

The appointee will be based at Corpus Christi College, Oxford, OX1 4JF.
