Job Summary

The MRC Centre for Environment and Health is inviting applications for its Early Career Fellowship Programme. This is an exciting opportunity to join a leading international research centre for multidisciplinary research and training on environment and health sciences.

We seek an ambitious, exceptional candidate with a PhD and experience in research on environment and health and strong quantitative skills. These fellowships aim to support the development of competitive, independent researchers, providing a platform to fulfil their long-term career goals.

You are required to produce a research proposal describing your plans to carry out an ambitious research programme in one of the Centre’s core research areas. Proposals must be relevant to the Centre’s research scope and their focus should fall within at least one of the following key areas:

  • Environmental Epidemiology and Exposure Sciences
  • Molecular Epidemiology
  • Spatial Epidemiology, including small-area and GIS
  • Biostatistics, Computational Biology and Data Science
  • Climate Change and Health

Multidisciplinary cross-Centre proposals are encouraged.

Duties and responsibilities

You will be responsible for the development of your independent research programme, establishing collaborations with other internal and external partners where relevant, under the supervision of your chosen mentor. You will be expected to present your work at significant conferences, publish in high-quality international peer-reviewed journals and contribute to the preparation of research grants and Fellowship proposals.

Essential requirements

You must have a PhD or equivalent, awarded prior to the fellowship start date, in one of the key areas listed above or a related field of study.

Applications will be assessed on the quality of the proposal, the candidate’s standing as demonstrated by the extent to which they meet the personal criteria in the job description, and on their potential to develop an independent research career.
