Essex Sport – Performance Sport Programme
The University performance sport programme has set out an ambitious three-year plan, with three main ambitions that each sport will work to.
Ambition 1: Leading sporting institution in the region
To spearhead the building of Essex’s reputation as the leading sporting HE institution in the region
Ambition 2: Leading institution in the region for providing applied learning in performance sport setting
Contribute to the University’s transformational educational experience through student workforce, workshops and education programmes.
Ambition 3: UK leading student sport fan experience
To enhance the student experience on campus, and support the sense of membership of the University campus by providing exciting, inclusive opportunities to attend matches and support the performance and focus teams.
At Essex, student athlete development is at the heart of our mission, our programmes are developed with the student athlete at the very centre. Whether students attend Essex to compete and train at the highest level and go on to sign professional contracts or chose to study at Essex to be part of the wider experience on offer within the wider opportunities of our performance sports, the performance sport programme offers the opportunities to provide students with the skills, training and events to be successful.
By 2025, the University will be recognised as the regional institution of choice for sport. Our reputation of providing a top-quality daily training environment alongside a transformational educational experience will enable our students to maximise and achieve their potential and thus in turn will attract more students with the ambition and potential to succeed. The opportunities offered by our performance programme will contribute to the University's living and learning community and Essex Spirt with our focus being on a shared commitment to belonging, providing meaningful impact and developing and enhancing a culture of excellence for both our students and staff.
