It is anticipated that a hybrid working pattern can be adopted for this role, where the successful candidate can work from home and the office. However, as this role is contractually aligned to our Milton Keynes office it is expected that some attendance in the office will be required when necessary and in response to business needs. We’d expect this to be a minimum of one day per week.

The role of the University Secretary’s Office is to secure compliance for the institution and provide a range of professional services that enable the University Secretary and other senior executives to deliver on their responsibilities. Being institutional role models for good governance, leadership support, data and information management and effective compliance we are recognised as the 'go to' experts in the development and delivery of institutional and sector priorities, policies, and services as they relate to our teams.

The role  

The Open University is recruiting a Senior Manager to provide strategic insight, guidance and support to the University Secretary, Director USO and other senior executives of the University.

By maintaining an awareness of the changing policy and regulatory environment you will contribute to the promotion of efficient and effective engagement with external funding and regulatory bodies and will monitor the University’s compliance to provide assurance across a variety of areas. Working collaboratively, you will manage strategic and operational projects across the Professional Services portfolio, liaising and guiding senior staff in a variety of Units. You will also provide project, secretariat and relationship management support to key groups and staff across the University in support of the University Secretary’s portfolio.

Skills and experience

The role will suit you if you have:

  • Experience of working in a regulated environment and applying skills effectively to assure organisational compliance.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to identify, analyse, interpret, and present complex information effectively, and to develop proposals for action.
  • Experience of working collaboratively, with the ability to pull together the right people to achieve results through pro-active development of networks.
