The University of Glasgow is seeking a Lecturer to join the John Smith Centre. The John Smith Centre promotes politics as a force for positive change through thought-leadership and action.

The John Smith Centre is embedded within the College of Social Sciences at the University of Glasgow and has built a strong reputation for student opportunities and outstanding events. We seek to extend our activities at the University and beyond, encouraging young people to participate in politics.

The Centre is at an exciting stage in our development. We are currently recruiting our second Director since inception, and this year will be launching the UK’s first Youth Poll, a multi-year annual tracker poll assessing the attitudes of young people towards politics. Key to the Poll’s success and unique appeal is that students are involved in every part of it.

The launch of the Youth Poll provides an exciting and unique academic role created to support the development and delivery of this research project. The successful candidate will co-design and manage the youth poll project, including survey questions, data collection, data analysis and reporting. The successful candidate will contribute to the delivery of an excellent student experience by contributing to the teaching, administration, communication and external engagement of this survey. In addition to core survey questions, additional questions will be co-produced annually by students as part of a new course option available to undergraduate students in the first instance. There is future scope to develop both PGT components and employability options rooted in the data collection, design and communication process.

The successful candidate will be line-managed by the Director of the John Smith Centre and will be expected to contribute to research and teaching within the School of Social & Political Sciences.

This post is full time (35 hrs. per week) and open ended.
