Job Details

We are seeking to appoint a Scientific Officer/ Higher Scientific Officer (dependant on experience) to join the Drug Metabolism and Pharmacokinetics (DMPK) team to support pre-clinical drug discovery projects. The main purpose of the role is to develop, validate and run analytical DMPK assays in line with Good Clinical Practice (GCP) guidelines, using liquid handling systems and Liquid Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (LC-MS) methodology to measure drugs and identify metabolites in preclinical samples.  

Key Requirements

The successful candidate must have a BSc in Pharmacology/Toxicology, Analytical Chemistry or related subject. Laboratory experience preferably analytical, DMPK or similar is essential. We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic applicant to work in an interdisciplinary environment towards the goal of developing improved cancer therapeutics. The successful candidate will have the ability to work effectively and efficiently, both independently and as part of a team, where good communication is key, maintaining attention to detail and keeping appropriate records. The ability to work within the guidelines of Data Protection, Good Laboratory Practice and Good Clinical Practice is essential. Knowledge of pharmacokinetics, in-vitro DMPK assays and drug development is desirable but not essential. 

Department/Directorate Information

The post holder will be based in the Drug Metabolism and Pharmacokinetics (DMPK) team within the the Cancer Therapeutics Unit of the Centre for Cancer Drug Discovery (CCDD). The centre is a multidisciplinary 'bench to bedside' centre, comprising around 200 staff dedicated to the discovery and development of novel therapeutics for the treatment of cancer. The Centre for Cancer Drug Discovery’s exciting goal is to discover high quality drug candidates for validated biological targets and to progress these candidates to clinical trial. All the scientific disciplines are in place to make this possible. Our world-class biologists, chemists and drug metabolism specialists work together focusing on new molecular targets emerging from human genome and ground-breaking cell biology research. This is an exciting and fast-moving cancer research setup and offers the opportunity to work within a multi-disciplinary environment using state-of-the-art techniques and equipment.
