Position Summary
 
The CASCADE project is looking to appoint a Research Support Officer to help run its international doctoral training network. CASCADE will recruit and fund 10 PhD candidates to pursue doctorates in innovative methods for identifying, analysing, and interrogating how meaning is expressed in text and language in diverse contexts. CASCADE is a partnership between University College Cork, the University of Sheffield, KU Leuven, the University of Helsinki, and Saarland University.
 
CASCADE has been awarded over €2,800,000 in funding, comprising €2,192,270 from the HORIZON-MCSA Doctoral Network scheme and £615,451 from UK Research and Innovation (URKI).
 
The Research Support Officer will fulfil the role of network manager, working closely with academic collaborators and relevant research support teams across five European universities, reporting directly to James O’Sullivan, University College Cork, where the successful candidate will be based.
 
The position involves managing the implementation and delivery of a large network of interconnected PhD projects on behalf of the consortium, including the organisation of meetings, international conferences and workshops, oversight of the network’s work plans for research and publishing, budgeting, liaison with international partners (in academia and industry), ensuring alignment with grant authority and other appropriate policies, and preparing reports for consortium members and the funder.
 
The successful candidates will be an engaging individual with experience of project managing similar research training networks or large, complex projects that have multiple research streams, stakeholders and deliverables. They will have an understanding of the higher education sector, experience of financial management including budgeting, superb communication skills, excellent analytical skills, and a successful track record of supporting and motivating diverse and complex research teams. Previous experience managing an EU-funded doctoral network is highly desirable, but not essential. A background in arts, humanities or social science research would be an advantage, but is also non-essential.
