Join our Department of Chemistry as a Lecturer in our thriving Inorganic Chemistry section.

About the role

The Department of Chemistry at the University of Bath is seeking a Lecturer to join our thriving Inorganic Chemistry section. We are looking for someone whose track record demonstrates the potential for internationally leading research working in the broad area of molecular chemistry, preferably in the fields of catalysis, energy, materials, healthcare or sustainable chemical technologies. Interacting with and complementing existing research within the department (here) and more broadly the Faculty of Science will be an advantage.

At Bath there is a supportive and inclusive culture for the successful candidate to establish a leading research group. Interdisciplinary research is encouraged and currently projects on a wide range of topics including catalysis, sustainability, analytical chemistry, digital chemistry or inorganic chemistry at the life-sciences interface are in progress, together with teams drawn from other departments across the University.

You will teach units in chemistry, broadly focussing on Inorganic chemistry, maintaining the University’s high standards in teaching and learning, whilst enhancing the student experience.

You will be supported to contribute at an appropriate level to the administration, leadership, and management of the Department’s activities.

About you:

You will develop an excellent research track record in your area of chemistry. You should hold a PhD and have a vision to establish an international reputation for high quality publications, backed up by appropriate research funding and activity.

You will be expected to conduct an internationally leading research programme and to take a lead in obtaining significant funding from UK and international sources.

Application Requirements & Selection Process:

Please provide both research and teaching statements of up to two pages for each in addition to a full CV and a statement of commitment to EDI. Include a list of publications, highlighting what you consider to be your 3 most important (since 2021) and why.

Your research statement needs to outline your plans and intentions for research activity and grant capture over the coming five years. This document will be treated in the strictest confidence and with full respect for ownership. The teaching vision should outline your areas of teaching expertise (including any programming/software/coding experience) and a range of potential teaching subjects as well as course development interests. These are mandatory components of the selection process, without which we will be unable to progress your application.

For informal discussion about the role, please contact Professor Matthew Jones, Head of Department (mj205@bath.ac.uk), Professor Michael Hill, Head of Inorganic Chemistry (m.s.hill@bath.ac.uk) or Professor Petra Cameron, Director of Research (p.j.cameron@bath.ac.uk).

We expect the interview for this position to be held over two days on the 13th and 14th May 2024. This will also include a presentation.

About the department:

The department of Chemistry ranks consistently highly in major league tables.

We have 45 members of academic staff and are housed in state-of-the art facilities for both research and teaching.

In the most recent Research Excellence Framework (REF2021), 99% of our submitted research was rated ‘world-leading’ or ‘internationally excellent’.
