Terms: Fixed term contract until July 2025, full time post, 37 hours per week

The role  

The post-holder will help manage PolicyWISE’s core comparative policy research offering, working with cross-nation policy learning and knowledge exchange networks. This is a unique opportunity to develop, support and deliver research-policy engagement across Britain and Ireland.

The post-holder will work with a Research Associate colleague, the PolicyWISE team, academic colleagues across The OU and beyond, and with partners in the public policy community. This will include identifying needs, opportunities, and research projects, delivering research independently, in collaboration with partners or commissioning additional academic resource to support PolicyWISE capacity. There will be significant opportunities to work with, and through, cross-nation and inter-governmental policy and knowledge exchange networks. 

The post-holder will require strong interpersonal, stakeholder management and communication skills, in addition to research experience and skills. They will report to the PolicyWISE Director. 

About PolicyWISE

PolicyWISE is a unique UK and Ireland comparative policy research and knowledge exchange initiative that changes and improves how governments and academics work together in, and across, the nations to help solve policy challenges.

The initiative is UK and Ireland by design (working across The Open University’s unique four nations base), supporting policymakers and researchers across the nations to develop relationships, respect and knowledge.

PolicyWISE was developed by The Open University in collaboration with leading universities across Britain and Ireland. We engaged with the Irish Government, Northern Ireland Executive, Scottish Government, UK Government and Welsh Government in developing their mission and continue to work with cross-nation government partners.

Skills and experience

We are looking for an individual with strong organisation and communications skills, with a motivation to find solutions and adapt to evolving workstreams. You will have an interest in helping policymakers find evidence-informed policy solutions, supported by comparative and collaborative research and methods.

You will have experience of comparative data analysis, including comparative research literacy and systematic reviews, and a proven ability of engaging with public policy and working collaboratively with practitioners and policy makers. You will share PolicyWISE’s inclusive, innovative and responsive values, and our commitment to be curious, connected and collaborative in all our work.
