Hours: Full Time

Salary on appointment will be £36,333 per annum, with an annual increment up to £43,155 per annum.

An exciting opportunity is available for a Senior Research Associate to join the laboratory of Dr Gary Rowley, School of Biological Sciences, to undertake a BBSRC-funded molecular microbiology project.

With Dr Andrew Gates, the project will determine how non-coding small RNAs (sRNAs) regulate bacterial denitrification.  You will combine functional genomics, microbial cell biology and biochemistry to advance our understanding of the regulatory network controlling this important biogeochemical pathway. This research is critical if we are to prevent bacterial emissions of the potent climate-damaging greenhouse gas, nitrous oxide (N2O).

As a Senior Research Associate you will contribute to the research programme, analyse and interpret data, write research articles for peer-reviewed journals and present data at internal/external seminars and conferences. You will also train other members of the group on relevant methodologies and supervise students as required.

You will have:

  • A relevant PhD in microbiology or related area (or be awarded within 6 months of appointment).
  • Research experience in microbiology, molecular biology and/or biochemistry.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Experience in supervision of undergraduate students.

Publications in relevant, leading international peer-reviewed journals are desirable and experience in functional genomics is not required, but would be an advantage.

This full-time post is available from 1 May 2024 on a fixed term basis for up to 36 months.
