About the role

Applications are invited for a PDRA to work in the group of Dr Jack Jeffries in Biochemical Engineering at University College London. A novel high-throughput scale-out fermentation array for isoprene bioprocess development is an Innovate UK-funded project in collaboration with Twig Bio aimed at establishing open source microreactors as small-scale devices for continuous fermentation and ensure appropriate control routines are integrated. These systems must have comparable operation to commercial systems, e.g. Das gip reactor systems, and will be ultimately compared with these. The capabilities of the microreactors will be expanded with the integration of more sensor technology and modif ications to their structure, Modified and expanded reactor platforms will be evaluated for their ability to grow different bacterial strains for the production and monitoring of RFP and ultimately the industrial feedstock chemical Isoprene. The expanded platforms, at each stage, will be benchmarked against commercial platforms. The project brings together experts in industrial biocatalysis Biochemical engineering and data analysis from the academic and industrial sectors. The position is funded by Innovate UK for up to 6 months. The candidate will join the Jeffries lab team in the Department of Biochemical Engineering at the Bloomsbury Campus, and Manufacturing Futures Laboratory at UCL East, of University College London. https://profiles.ucl.ac.uk/37542
