About our team - Mō te tīma

The Department of Pathology, Dunedin School of Medicine, teaches all areas of pathology to students from the medical, medical laboratory science, dental, and physiotherapy programmes. It also contributes to other areas of teaching of the second- and third-year medical programme such as the Clinical Skills, Integrated Cases and Early Professional Experience modules.

The role - Te mahi

We are currently recruiting for a Senior Professional Practice Fellow with experience in a branch of pathology to join our Department. In this role, you will provide leadership in teaching into each of the programmes listed above.

This Dunedin based role will include preparation and modification of pathology teaching material, providing guidance to non-expert tutors, and delivery of the material. Most of the teaching is delivered in a small group format, but it may also include some lecture delivery and contributions to some laboratory sessions.

Key tasks also include:

  • Providing leadership to refine the pathology curriculum in collaboration with teaching partners at University of Otago Wellington and University of Otago Christchurch.
  • Contributing to the preparation and marking of assessment for the pathology components of the programmes listed above.

This role does not include a requirement to be involved in research, but research collaboration with other members of the School of Medicine would be supported.

Skills and experience - Kā pūkeka me kā wheako

You will be medically qualified with, preferably, specialist training and experience in at least one branch of pathology.

You will also:

  • Have experience in teaching health science students and/or advanced specialist trainees.
  • Have excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Be committed to upholding values, tikanga, kawa and traditions as guided by Ngāi Tahu, who are mana whenua in the region.

This is a full-time (1.0 FTE), permanent position available from mid-2024.

The salary range for a medically-qualified Senior Professional Practice Fellow is $102,270 to $172,693 per annum. The successful candidate will be appointed to an appropriate level based on qualifications, skills and experience.
