Job Summary

The EPSRC Centre of Doctoral Training (CDT) in Next-Generation Synthesis & Reaction Technology (rEaCt) provides training in the critical skills, approaches and techniques in modern synthetic chemistry. Funded by EPSRC in 2019, the CDT recruited postgraduate students over 5 cohorts. The CDT is led and managed by a board of Directors (Professors Mimi Hii, Klaus Hellgardt and Antonio Del Rio Chanona), working with the Operations, Educational and Development Teams to deliver a fully-integrated programme of training across Chemistry, Engineering and Data Science.

The CDT assembles a multi-disciplinary team of internationally-leading researchers at Imperial College and benefits from significant strategic infrastructural and capital investment on cutting edge, state-of-the-art technology and facilities such as ROAR, Agilent Advanced Measurement Suite. In addition to this, the CDT aims to engage with the Centres of Excellence in the US and Europe, to deliver a unique multi-faceted training programme to improve the skills, employability and productivity of the graduates to produce well-rounded individuals who can tackle challenges of synthesis in the coming decades to equip them for future academic and industrial roles. 

The CDT is a joint venture between the Athena Swan Gold holding Department of Chemistry and the Department of Chemical Engineering at Imperial College London.

Duties and responsibilities

  • As a Programme Manager you will be providing logistic support to the Directors in the day-to-day running of the CDT, including managing students’ academic records, budgetary management, and resource planning.
  • You will be responsible for initiating and co-ordinating CDT training and development events, such as research meetings, summer schools, cohort activities, and management of external partner engagements, including industrial liaison.
  • You will manage the communication channels for the programme via the website and social media pages and be responsible for internal communication of centre activities and reporting to the UKRI.
  • Pastoral care duty will be key to provide support to the CDT students and mitigate issues where needed.

Essential requirements

  • Project management qualification (Agile CSM, PMP, Prince2)
  • Experience in project/programme management
  • Experience in organising meetings, workshops, conferences, etc
  • Experience in managing UKRI/Charity/Government funded programmes (research or training)
  • Experience of leading on annual reports for UKRI/Charity/Government funded programmes
  • Experience in producing marketing and promotional materials
  • Experience in managing budgets and monitoring spend
  • Experience of external stakeholder management
  • Experience in office-based administration and support services within Higher Education
  • Experience of planning and organising STEM outreach and public activities
  • Managing and delivering website material
  • Ability to use social media to raise the profile of an activity or Centre.
  • Working with key Microsoft software packages.

Further Information

This position is full-time and for a fixed term until 30 September 2027. You will be based at White City Campus, with travel to South Kensington Campus as required.

Hybrid working may be considered for this role. Staff working in roles that are suitable for hybrid working will normally be expected to work 60% of their time onsite. The opportunity for hybrid working will be discussed at interview.
