About the role
Applications are invited for a full-time Research Fellow position to work with Professor Frank Smith on the project Melting and freezing of in-flow particles and droplets. The post is available from 1st July 2024 or as soon as possible thereafter and is for approx. 34 months in the first instance. Salary will be UCL Grade 7, point 30, which is £42,009 per annum inclusive of London Allowance. Candidates should either have a PhD or equivalent qualification in Applied Mathematics (or in an allied area), should be finalising their PhD or waiting for their viva date. Please note: Appointment at Grade 7 is dependent on award and confirmation of a PhD (or equivalent). If this is not the case, initial appointment will be at Research Assistant Grade 6B, point 28 (salary £ 39,980 per annum inclusive of London allowance) with payment at Grade 7 being backdated to the date of final submission of the PhD thesis.
Research
To carry out vigorous, high-level research into the in-flow phase-change area, preferably with reference to the novel alternative development of the subject, based on modelling, analysis, computation and links with observations or experiments. To interface with Professor Smith and his contacts in academia and industry, and participation in meetings, seminars and colloquiua in the subject. Additionally, the successful candidate will submit publications when appropriate in refereed journals and participating in national and international conferences.
Teaching
The post involves no compulsory teaching duties, but as part of their professional development the Research Fellow may be offered the opportunity to take on teaching and/or supervision responsibilities appropriate to their experience.
Management and Administration
To Comply with institutional and departmental policies on Fire and Health & Safety Regulations, Equal Opportunities, and other matters. To undertake administrative duties in line with the post. As duties and responsibilities change, the job description will be reviewed and amended in consultation with the postholder. The postholder will be responsible directly to Professor Smith.
