Research Fellow in Energy Engineering

The Institute for Research in Engineering and Sustainable Environment (IRESE) at University of Bedfordshire is seeking to appoint a committed and enthusiastic candidate for the role of Research Fellow in Energy Engineering who will conduct research in the Innovate UK funded RESORCS project.

IRESE is focused on research in engineering with particular efforts invested in enhancing sustainable environment concepts including research in electronic, mechanical, and energy engineering. The Institute performed well on the recent REF2021 exercise and has a significant suite of ongoing funded research projects, which it seeks to build upon. Our activities are supported by the University’s significant investment (circa £40m) in a brand-new STEM building, which opened in 2019. The building comprises state-of-the-art research and teaching labs.

RESORCS is a joint technical research project intended to be carried out by university and industry partners in both the UK and in Sri Lanka. The project involves technical innovations, system design, proof of concept, laboratory testing, implementation of the proposed technology and testing of equipment and novel technologies in off-grid green energy for heating and energy harvesting. The project is targeting deployment in South-East Asian countries.

The successful candidate will be required to make a major contribution to the RESORCS research project funded by Innovate UK, working with a number of academic and industry partners, both local and international. Applicants should demonstrate expertise in several of the following areas: thermodynamics, energy engineering, laboratory testing, data acquisition, thermal storage systems, solar energy harnessing, and excellent computer literacy. There is international and local travel involved in this project to the industry partners and the international partners.

Candidates will typically be educated to MSc level in a relevant discipline (or have gained equivalent professional experience) and possess sufficient specialist knowledge of general mechanical, thermal, or energy engineering and hands-on skills to work independently on a laboratory-based research project. Technical authoring ability and experience is also expected.
