About the Role
The School of Engineering and Materials Science (SEMS) is seeking an Engineering Teaching Laboratory Technician to support the day-to-day operation, maintenance and continuous improvement of our designated teaching laboratory facilities. Working collaboratively with academic, technical and professional services colleagues, you will provide specialist technical expertise to support high-quality laboratory teaching, student projects and practical learning activities across a broad range of engineering disciplines, including Aerospace, Biomedical, Chemical, Mechanical, Robotics and Sustainable Energy Engineering. You will install, calibrate and maintain laboratory equipment and instrumentation, prepare materials and resources for practical teaching sessions, and provide technical guidance and training to staff and students. You will also help maintain a safe, efficient and well-organised laboratory environment, ensuring compliance with health and safety requirements.
About You
You will hold a Bachelor's degree in a relevant Engineering field, or have extensive work experience in a related laboratory technician role, together with relevant experience of laboratory-based teaching in higher or further education. You will have experience of health and safety procedures in teaching and a working understanding of concepts in one or more engineering fields (e.g. mechanical, bio, chemical, materials, robotics or aerospace). You will be self-motivated, with a willingness to learn new skills and experimental techniques, and confident using standard computing software such as Outlook, Excel and Word. Experience of working with electrical circuits and software interfaces (e.g. LabVIEW, Arduino), mechanical testing procedures, or a relevant professional membership (e.g. RSciTech) would be desirable.
