Role
The position being offered is a full-time associate lecturer / lecturer (teaching and scholarship) in a relevant subject area within English Studies (literature, language, culture, education) at the Norwegian Study Centre (NSC), University of York, Heslington. The successful candidate will be able to use their subject-expertise to provide a contemporary and multicultural British context to international students visiting York on cultural and academic exchange from Norwegian Higher Educational Institutions. Applications are particularly welcomed from the fields of Education (teaching EFL in primary and secondary contexts, English teacher education), English and Related Literature (British children’s literature, contemporary or historic British literature), Language and Linguistic Science (applied linguistics, language variation), Cultural Studies (politics, sociology).

The role is 37 hours per week. The position is being offered at the HERA salary grade of 6, which is equivalent to a yearly salary of £36,024 - £44,263.

Skills, Experience & Qualifications

  • PhD (or working towards a PhD) in a relevant subject within the field of English Studies (literature, language/linguistics, culture, pedagogy/education).
  • Appropriate academic teaching qualifications or a willingness to complete the Postgraduate Certificate in Academic Practice.
  • Ability to design and deliver teaching material from a British perspective to undergraduate and postgraduate students from Norway which includes in-service teachers and teacher training students as well as English Studies specialists.
  • Demonstrate evidence of successful teaching and supervision within a Higher Education environment.
  • Highly developed oral and written communication skills in English.
  • Commitment to high quality, and ability to display creativity, initiative, and judgement.
  • Collaborative and flexible approach within a close-knit team.
  • Commitment to the undertaking of administration duties.
  • Additional qualifications desired are a knowledge of and experience with British primary and secondary education and ability to lead, plan and evaluate cooperative arrangements with local British primary and secondary schools, and involvement in outreach with local schools and organisations.
