Research Associate - Greenhalgh Lab

We seek an enthusiastic and highly motivated post-doctoral research scientist to work on a project, funded by the Medical Research Council. The role will examine the brain’s immune response to mild Traumatic Brain Injury (mTBI), commonly referred to as concussion, and how it contributes to associated emotional and cognitive symptoms. Using preclinical models of mTBI, key immune components of the brain, such as the meninges and resident microglia will be probed to understand the neuroimmune pathways involved in this common injury.

The successful candidate will have (or expect to hold shortly) a PhD (or equivalent) with a strong background in immunology, with an interest in neuroscience. The candidate should have excellent technical skills in flow cytometry, extensive experience of working with animal models, and preferably with models of inflammation. Training will be available in all areas of the project. Experience in behavioural testing would be advantageous.

The candidate will join the lab of Dr Andrew Greenhalgh based in the Lydia Becker Institute of Immunology and Inflammation and will be closely associated with The Geoffrey Jefferson Brain Research Centre. The Greenhalgh lab covers basic mechanisms of neuroimmunology through to clinical neuroimaging and has wide interests from traumatic brain injury to rare genetic disorders.

This full-time post is for up to 24 months, with an anticipated start date of the 1st of June 2024.
