The UK Data Archive is the lead organisation of the UK Data Service, which provides unified access to regional, national and international social and economic data, and provides support, guidance and training for the development of skills in data curation and use.

Duties of the Role

The purpose of this role is to contribute to the achievement of goals and deliverables required of the Business Operations and Strategy section for the success of the UK Data Service and UK Data Archive. 

The Business Information Officer will be responsible for supporting the UK Data Service and UK Data Archive through the identification, collection, collation and presentation of management information used in reporting to stakeholders.  Business information includes collection of KPIs, other business data points and collation of activities. 

The role will lead in secretariat activities for the management of the Service and Archive including to the high level Governance Board with representation from funders. You will also provide project management for Service and Archive-wide projects including new business information systems, review and development of Service and Archive websites and the review of business processes to enhance the service. In addition, you will take responsibility for training on the tools used for internal communication, project management and storage and sharing of business information.

Qualifications and Skills required

Educated to degree level and/or possessing equivalent professional experience, the role holder will have knowledge of management information systems; experience of collation of business information for reporting and planning, and in providing secretariat and project support.

An understanding of data security is a key element of the role. You will also have the ability to develop and deliver training in areas relevant to the role.

The role requires excellent communication skills; an organised and methodical approach to work, including motivating others to work effectively to deadlines; problem-solving ability, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

This post is fixed term until 31/05/2025 to provide temporary cover for staff absence. Whilst this a full-time post (36 hours per week), a job share arrangement could be considered for the right candidates and we would similarly welcome applications from those looking to work 0.5 FTE (18 hours per week) on this basis.
