About Us

King’s Climate & Sustainability (KCS) is a university-wide initiative established in 2023 to step up our response to the challenge of climate emergency and global sustainability, and to accelerate and connect research, education and operations across King’s. With an ambition to become a net zero institution, King’s has already made progress to embed sustainability into our operations. We are uniquely positioned to amplify, connect and scale impactful research, education and action, build new connections between fields of study – including technological, socio-economic, legal, geopolitical – and create meaningful external partnerships to deliver strong, distinctive and visible contributions to the challenge of achieving just and fair transitions to sustainability.

About the Role

The Business Support Officer will play a key role in supporting the Assistant Principal (Climate & Sustainability), Programme Director and the work of the King’s Climate & Sustainability Delivery Team through providing efficient business support. This includes EA support and diary management, secretariat support for committees and meetings, co-ordinating budgets, managing the team’s estates and facilities matters, and providing support for internal and external events.

We are looking for someone organised and proactive, who is keen to support the important work undertaken by the Climate & Sustainability Delivery Team. The successful candidate will enjoy using their initiative and working with colleagues to get things done.

This is a full-time post (35 hours per week) but we are happy to consider requests for part-time working (at 0.8 FTE and above) and/or flexible hours for this role.

You will be offered a fixed term contract until 31 July 2026.

This is a hybrid role, with, on average, 2 days a week in the office. Unfortunately, we are not able to accommodate requests for fully remote working.

About You

To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:

Essential criteria

  • Educated to A-level or equivalent.
  • Excellent organisational skills, including experience of complex diary management and a proactive, methodical and flexible approach with a high level of attention to detail.
  • Excellent IT skills including MS Office, Sharepoint, databases and web editing.
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills.
  • Experience of office administration, including budgetary and financial processes and servicing committees.
  • Ability to be a self-starter, use initiative and have the motivation to see things through to completion, with the ability to work without close supervision.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team, and deal with a wide variety of people in a professional and assured manner.
  • Interest in sustainability issues.

Desirable criteria

  • Experience of supporting events.
  • Experience of managing budgets.
  • Undergraduate degree.

We pride ourselves on being inclusive and welcoming. We embrace diversity and want everyone to feel that they belong and are connected to others in our community.

We are committed to working with our staff and unions on these and other issues, to continue to support our people and to develop a diverse and inclusive culture at King's.

Interviews are due to be held on Thursday 09 May 2024

We are not able to offer sponsorship for candidates who do not currently possess the right to work in the UK.
