Our ambition is to be the leading IT services group in the HE sector and we are growing our team’s capability in experience/UX, agile development, security, cloud, service management and partnering. We are modernising our technology foundations, digitising the processes of the university to transform experience for students and staff, and partnering across the university to drive differentiation in UCL education and research. Within ISD, this post is in the IT Service and Operations department which manages the infrastructure and data platforms which underpin UCL's central IT services, including data centres, cloud compute and storage platforms, networks, telephony, communications and collaboration and enterprise applications.
About the role
About you The post holder will possess deep and broad understanding in the following areas: Familiarity and practical experience of working in a datacentre, communications room or similar environment with a mixed range of technologies Experience of installing and supporting data networks within a large organisation located across a number of sites and supporting wired and wireless networks across multiple platforms (e.g. PC, Mac) Understanding of the issues involved in central management of very large numbers of systems, that are geographicall y distributed, and the need for strict change control Working knowledge of network technologies, hardware and infrastructure, experience in the design, deployment and support of switched networks Knowledge of network security principles, and experience of their application in a complex and diverse network environment Commitment to the provision of a high-quality user-focused service Experience of using an online fault logging/tracking system Knowledge of Cisco IOS Experience of using a cable management system to trace infrastructure and installation details
