About the role

The Department of Electronic and Electrical Engineering at the University of Bath is seeking to appoint a Lecturer in Biomedical Engineering or Human Augmentation to undertake excellent research and deliver high-quality teaching. We are looking for an outstanding researcher to enhance our research, join an expanding and ambitious department, and to shape the technology of the future in a vibrant and inclusive environment.

The University hosts both the Centre for Bioengineering and Biomedical Technologies (CBio) and the Bath Institute for the Augmented Human (IAH) and you will be expected to contribute significantly to the success of either one or both of these exciting new research entities.

About CBio

CBio’s mission is to improve health and wellbeing through world-leading bioengineering research, with a vision to foster and develop transdisciplinary and translatable research that addresses the grand challenges in human health and wellbeing. CBio builds on the strong international reputation of the previous Centre for Biosensors, Bioelectronics and Biodevices (C3Bio), and extends its remit to include ground-breaking research in biomedical technology and bioengineering. This includes emerging strengths in robotics and autonomous systems for healthcare, and major strengths in biomechanics, bioprocesses and tissue engineering.

About the IAH

The IAH is the University’s newest research Institute, established in 2023, as an innovative and agile leader in Human Augmentation R&D in the UK and Internationally. Our vision is a complete multidisciplinary training and innovation ecosystem that revolutionises the way that humans’ interface, interact, improve, and evolve with technology. The Institute is a unique body of interdisciplinary research focusing on research excellence and developing researchers that have the skills to develop, trial, regulate and deploy human augmentation technologies.

We’re setting ourselves an ambitious programme involving 50+ academics from an excellent mix of disciplines, from robotics, engineering and computer science to health, neuroscience, and psychology. Together, we’re establishing a world-leading research Institute, and we want you to be a part of it.

About you

You will have track record in applied Biomedical Engineering and teaching, with the potential to develop a significant research portfolio. In particular, you should ideally have experience (or potential) in research encompassing bioengineering, biomedical technology and human augmentation technologies - for example neurotechnology or brain-computer interfaces.

You will hold a PhD and an undergraduate degree in Electronic and Electrical Engineering or a very closely related subject. Through your research and teaching, you will be passionate about addressing the global challenges and educating the next generation of engineers. This role will suit you if you:

  • Enjoy working in a collaborative and supportive environment;
  • Can demonstrate a clear fit to the Department’s research profile with your research being in research activities, including the application of artificial intelligence and machine learning in your research area
  • Are passionate about teaching and have the ability to teach a wide range of electronic and electrical engineering subjects at both postgraduate and undergraduate levels on all our courses
  • Have a growing publication record and international reputation appropriate to your career stage
  • Have potential for winning and delivering on research grants

Please ensure you submit your application through our website, and please upload an up to date CV.
