The Royal Academy of Dance is a dynamic organisation dedicated to advancing standards of dance education and teaching, and to the promotion and development of dance worldwide. Through its Faculty of Education, and as a provider of higher education, the RAD delivers internationally recognised dance education and teaching qualifications including university-validated degrees and its own professional teaching awards under its Royal Charter.
We wish to make a 0.8 appointment for a Lecturer in Dance Education who will contribute to the delivery, engagement and scholarship of distance learning and onsite programmes of study. You will have a strong education and teacher education background, and be able to contribute to the teaching, assessment and development of dance education modules both distance learning and onsite. While a background in dance is not essential, a knowledge of dance practice and dance teacher education is desirable. As part of this role, you will also supervise students on dance teaching placements, dissertations and undertake administrative duties associated with teaching, day- to-day management and support of students.
You should be a committed and enthusiastic educator, with an excellent educational background including a postgraduate degree (or near completion of postgraduate degree) or equivalent. Up to date knowledge and understanding of current educational issues relating to both theory and practice is also essential. You will need comprehensive knowledge and experience of teaching, with strong time management skills so as to co-ordinate teaching and other related activities to meet deadlines and targets. In addition, you will have a sound understanding of student support and pastoral matters across professional and higher education contexts.
Shortlisted applicants will be required to prepare a 10 minute presentation from a list of selected educational topics, and submit a written tutoring task prior to the interview.
An offer of employment will be subject to an Enhanced DBS check from the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).
