Job Summary

Please note this is a part time (0.5 FTE) opportunity.

The Insights for Catalysing Conservation is an initiative focussed on developing evidence-based conservation policy and practice to catalyse growth of conservation efforts that benefit nature and people. Our efforts aims to advance frontiers of knowledge and enable science-based efforts to inform appropriate scaling of conservation interventions and to mitigate the risk that conservation interventions will be abandoned.

While Imperial houses a large part of the researchers in this initiative, we have collaborators across various institutions, including Conservation International, Duke University and Nature Conservation Foundation.

You will work closely with Dr Morena Mills (the Director of the Initiative) and assist with both data analysis and the strategic development and management of the initiatives research activities. This is a broad role that involves a little bit of research and lots of research coordination so the applicant must enjoy both. You will, for example, help to identify key opportunities arising from funding calls, helping to develop effective collaborations with researchers and stakeholders, and assisting with the coordination and preparation of high-quality research grant proposals. You will also help with project engagement and developing communication materials associated to the initiative (e.g. a website).

These include:

  • Assist with data compilation, maintenance and analysis.
  • Assist with writing of reports to research sponsors.
  • Assist with the publication of the findings.

Communications and research dissemination

  • Assist with coordination and effective communications with researchers, collaboration and engagement opportunities that result from the initiative’s wider work, growing awareness and engagement with our research.
  • Assist with the development of the initiative’s website.

Essential requirements

These include:

  • Research Associate: Hold a PhD in conservation, environmental social science or environmental science or a closely related discipline, or equivalent research, industrial or commercial experience
  • Research Assistant: Masters degree (or equivalent) in conservation or environmental science or a closely related discipline
  • Experience of working with interdisciplinary projects
  • Proven practical experience in grant writing
  • Impeccable organisational skills
  • Knowledge of conservation science
