Background

The Violence and Society (VAS) Centre is a dynamic and growing interdisciplinary research centre at City. Our research is about violence and abuse, especially domestic and sexual violence and abuse, evidencing harms and supporting ways to reduce violence and resulting health inequalities. We use quantitative and qualitative methods, work with stakeholders across voluntary, government, health and police sectors. We take an intersectional approach, improve data and measurement, and produce analyse costings to inform policy and practice. The eleven researchers in the Centre have expertise across criminology, economics, health, epidemiology, sociology, demography and other disciplines. We have several sources of research income, but our main funding is a 5-year UKRI Consortium grant, Violence, Health and Society Consortium, 2021-2026. (VISION) comprises ten universities, 30 researchers and multiple external partnerships.

Responsibilities

The Manager will lead non-academic aspects of running the Centre and Consortium. Which will involve monitoring programme activities and progress, financial planning, developing and maintaining policies and procedures, and supporting new funding applications. Engagement with colleagues across City university and in other institutions is key to this role. You will lead on engaging with the Consortium funder (UKRI Prevention Research Partnership) and participate in a group of managers of other Consortia led from other universities. Alongside the Knowledge Exchange Manager, you will support the co-ordination of activities and communication across universities in the Consortium and with stakeholders in government, academia, third sector, and service providing organisations.

Person Specification

You will be able to balance diverse operational activities with varying timelines and priorities, including some administration activities. Experience of navigating complex university structures, roles, and systems. Due to the nature of our research, you will need to be able to deal with sensitive topics and a high level of data security.
