Within the project there are opportunities for developing the field in numerous ways, including:

  • Identifying novel/modified fibre designs with the potential to outperform current state-of-the-art
  • Deepening understanding of the behaviour of new and existing fibre structures using both theory and experiment
  • Further developing advanced fabrication processes to demonstrate high-performance fibres, including long fibre lengths
  • Demonstrating the lowest-attenuation optical fibre ever reported

This role would suit an imaginative researcher with a selection of the following:

  • PhD or equivalent in a relevant research area
  • Good working knowledge of optics and photonics
  • Familiar with optical laboratory techniques
