(12-month Fixed-term Contract)

The School of Architecture and the Built Environment at the University of Wolverhampton is looking for three Early Career Research Fellows (12-month fixed-term contract) from Brazil to work on projects funded by the British Council under the ‘International Science Partnerships Fund’.

You must have a PhD in a relevant science in order to meet the skilled worker visa requirement as outlined by the UK Home Office.

You will have the opportunity to work on one of three projects that will contribute to elements of the overarching project: Towards a sustainable, inclusive and resilient urban future for Brazil: Building a Futureproof Talent.

Project 1: Addressing Intersectionality Inequalities in Sustainable Cities (SUSTAIN).

Project 2: Pandemic and the role of Smart Cities in Amazon States, Brazil (SMART).

Project 3: Towards achieving optimised zero-emission last-mile logistics (OPTIMISE).

The SUSTAIN Project will focus on 'intersectionality responsiveness' in terms of accessibility; mobility; safety; security; reliability; health; hygiene; and resilience on cities infrastructure.

The SMART Project will investigate how the Amazon states dealt with the COVID-19 pandemic compared with other smart cities in Brazil.

The OPTIMISE Project will adopt a 'Living Labs' approach to demonstrate how delivery bots can be optimally coordinated and used for various logistics applications. The developed platform will integrate all recent advances in the domain towards achieving optimised zero-emission last-mile logistics. These outcomes would increase the operational efficiency of city logistics systems by circa 20%, thus decreasing delivery costs by 10-20% and decreasing emissions by 80-90%.

Interviews will be held on Microsoft TEAMS during the first two weeks of July 2024.
