We are looking for a Teaching Services Officer to join the large Teaching Office team within the School of Social and Political Science at the University of Edinburgh. There are two Teaching Services Officers who work in close partnership to lead the staff within the Teaching Office. 

The Opportunity:

You will be a leading partner in the SPS Teaching Office’s delivery, development, and continuous improvement of teaching and assessment services to students and staff for a suite of courses.  You will be both a member of the Office’s leadership team and a leader of a team within that Office.

This will involve allocating work to and providing supervision and guidance to a team of course administrators supporting the delivery of the School’s teaching and assessment in the Teaching Office. Responsive to change, you will work closely with other key members of academic and professional services staff on issues of forward planning, development, change management and implementation of services to ensure effective and continuous improvement of delivery of services to students and staff.

The focus of this vacancy is to lead on undergraduate course administration and assessment support.

This post is open ended and available from 1 September 2024.

This post is advertised as full-time (35 hours per week), however, we are open to considering flexible working patterns. We are also open to considering requests for hybrid working (on a non-contractual basis) that combines a mix of remote and regular on-campus working. 

Your skills and attributes for success:

  • Comprehensive and authoritative knowledge of the work practices, standards, policies, relevant systems, and processes relevant to the delivery of teaching and assessment.
  • Proven ability to analyse and solve problems with an appreciation of possible longer-term implications.
  • Proven ability and experience of training and/or supervising staff, allocating and prioritising their work and monitoring individual progress and performance.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal), with the ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of people.
  • Commitment to, and the ability to provide, excellence in the delivery of services.
