Technical Specialist for the Centre of Excellence in Water Based Early Warning Systems for Health Protection
Applications are invited for a Technical Specialist position in the Centre of Excellence in Water Based Early Warning Systems for Health Protection.
About the Centre
We’re working to transform public and environmental health management, establishing the first Urban Living Lab facility; a state-of-the-art digital water sensing platform, training base and ideas hub.
The centre combines sensing, mathematical modelling, data analytics and informatics with epidemiology and public engagement tools to provide low-cost and real-time community-wide testing of population health and the environment.
About the position
The Technical Specialist will join the Centre of Excellence in Water Based Early Warning Systems for Health Protection encompassing both research and doctoral training.
This role has responsibility for delivering technical support in the Centre.
This will require working closely with the Centre researchers and students, as well with academic and industrial partners.
Operationally, the Technical Specialist will oversee and contribute to sampling campaigns in our Living Labs, ensuring key deliverables are realised within the Centre and associated research projects. This will include:
1. Design and delivery of environment (water) sampling campaigns (sample collection and preparation).
2. Deployment and maintenance of sensors at wastewater treatment sites (in close collaboration with Wessex Water).
3. Provision of general lab/fieldwork technical support within the Centre.
4. Close collaboration with other members of staff in the centre, including mass spectrometry and data/software specialists, postdoctoral researchers and PhD students.
Additional notes:
This position is available from September 2024 for an initial period of 5 years with an expectation to transition to permanent after the first 5 years.
The successful candidate is expected to have relevant qualifications at undergraduate and/or postgraduate degree level or equivalent or experience working in a relevant field.
