About the Department
The Estates and Facilities Directorate is responsible for the delivery of the Estates and Infrastructure Strategy, which covers the areas of major construction and refurbishment projects, facilities operation, and space management, including timetabling and energy management. The Directorate aims to ensure that the quality, functionality and operation of the estate and its associated infrastructure meets the needs of its users and supports the activities of SOAS.
About the role
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Cleaning team at SOAS and provide essential support during the early morning period (6.00am to 10.00am). This role is ideal for someone with a good knowledge of the cleaning industry and a keen eye for detail.
Effective communication is crucial to this role. You must be able to communicate clearly with colleagues, managers and customers, and be capable of receiving and understanding instructions accurately. A keen eye for maintaining cleanliness standards and attention to detail is essential.
As a Cleaning Operative, you will be responsible for ensuring public and common areas are clean and meet high standards. This includes maintaining the cleanliness of staircases and designated outdoor areas. You will also clean toilet areas daily, taking care of all fixtures and fittings, mirrors and floors, as well as restocking supplies.
Your tasks will involve regular vacuuming and mopping to maintain cleanliness throughout the campus. You will also be responsible for cleaning glass panels, door sight panels, metal push plates, banisters, handrails, and other metal surfaces. Reporting any equipment issues and maintenance needs to your duty manager is an essential part of the job.
You will operate mechanical cleaning equipment after receiving training and will be responsible for cleaning the machinery after use. Occasionally, you will carry out emergency cleaning tasks as directed by your line manager, ensuring that all necessary risk assessments have been performed to maintain safety.
