About the Role
The School of Electronic Engineering and Computer Science seeks to recruit a Research Assistant for the project “Deploying Explainable AI to Reduce Time to Treatment in Trauma”. Working as part of a multi-disciplinary team of medics and paramedics, the research assistant will be responsible for finalising, evaluating, and deploying an existing suite of AI prediction models providing decision support to clinicians treating patients brought to the Royal London Hospital by the London Air Ambulance. The work is preparatory to a multi-centre trial expected to start in 2025.
About You
Applicants must have an Undergraduate Degree (or equivalent) in Computer Science or a related field. A Postgraduate Degree in Computer Science or a related topic is desirable. Candidates must have a good understanding of the use of probabilistic reasoning systems for clinical decision support, preferably in trauma care. As well as a good understanding of the analysis of clinical data, the process of training Bayesian networks and the evaluation of decision-support systems.

The post is based at the Whitechapel Campus in London. It is a part-time (17.5 hours per week), fixed term appointment for 8 months or until 31 March 2025, whichever is sooner, with an expected start date of July 2024. The starting salary will be Grade 4, in the range of £36,572 – £37,182 pro rata, inclusive of London Allowance.
