The Department of Classics and Archaeology at the University of Nottingham is looking to appoint a Teaching Associate in Roman Archaeology.

We believe in an inclusive working environment for all. We are welcoming, supportive, and caring, and pride ourselves on our positive community. Diversity is vital to our success and fundamental to our values, and we want to continue to tackle the issues faced by underrepresented groups in Classics and Archaeology. You will be able to demonstrate an ability to make a positive difference in this regard, and we are particularly keen to receive applications from people who are currently underrepresented in the field.

Shortlisting is anonymous: we cannot see any personal data or the ‘Additional Information’ section in your application until shortlisting is completed. Shortlisting is by criteria-based questions based on the person specification, rather than CV or cover letter.

Your role as a Teaching Associate will be varied and challenging and you will be able to demonstrate a strong teaching ability in archaeology. You will be responsible for teaching elements of undergraduate modules on Roman Britain and the wider Empire, archaeological techniques and theory (including practical field skills) for supervising undergraduate and taught postgraduate dissertations. You may contribute to undergraduate teaching on broader first year introductions to Roman history and art.

You must have a PhD already awarded in a relevant subject area or to be awarded by time of appointment and show evidence of ability to teach in the areas outlined above.

The well-being and development of our students is of utmost importance to us, so the successful candidate will take a proactive role in the pastoral support of students. You will have the ability to collaborate effectively with others to work accurately under pressure, whilst prioritising your own work activities in response to differing needs and demands.

The post is offered on a full-time (36.25 hours per week), fixed-term contract commencing 1 September 2024 until 31 August 2025.
