Change your career, change lives

The Open University is the UK’s largest university, a world leader in flexible part-time education combining a mission to widen access to higher education with research excellence, transforming lives through education.

People Services is committed to providing The Open University with high-quality people solutions and is valued for its efficiency, expertise, partnering capability and service.

The role

We are looking for an organised, proactive Senior Policy Adviser to join the People Services team.

As a Senior Policy Adviser, you will be responsible for developing, maintaining, reviewing and amending HR policies and procedures and to provide an advisory service to People Services colleagues on changes to HR policies and procedures. This is a diverse opportunity that will allow you to research and analyse forthcoming legislation to ensure HR policies and procedures are compliant.

This is an exciting opportunity which enables you to make a real difference and help drive forward the OU’s mission statement. Although this opportunity is aligned to our Milton Keynes campus, we are flexible on location with the understanding that you may be required to work on campus on ad-hoc basis.

Skills and experience

  • Are you educated to degree level and possess a relevant qualification in the field of HR or Management or have relevant, equivalent experience?
  • Do you have an eye for detail?
  • Do you have extensive experience of writing HR policies and procedures, interpreting complex legal documentation and translating them into relevant policies and procedures?
  • Do you have a solid understanding of UK employment legislation coupled with experience of working in a unionised environment?
  • Are you a competent user (intermediate to advanced) of MS office software: Word and Excel?
  • Are you able to prioritise a busy workload whilst possessing excellent communication skills?

If the answer to these questions is yes – we want to hear from you!
