Job Profile

Anna Freud is a world-leading mental health charity for children, young people and their families. Our mission is to close the gap in wellbeing and mental health by advancing, translating, delivering, and sharing the best science and practice with everyone who impacts the lives of children, young people and their families. More information about Anna Freud is available on our website: http://www.annafreud.org/about/.

We value diversity and aim to have diverse workforce that reflects the community and our service users, in line with our vision, values and inclusion commitments. We encourage applications from all sections of the community.

The Research Assistant will be responsible for recruiting and testing child participants, helping with data analysis and preparation of results. The work of the lab focuses on studying cognitive, social and affective child development and its underlying neural mechanisms. Current projects include studying the development of cognitive control and control beliefs (agency) both in developmental populations that are typically developing or at risk of developing mental health problems. The central aim of our research is to better understand mechanisms of resilience during different developmental periods (i.e. childhood and adolescence) and to leverage this to design effective interventions to prevent the emergence of mental ill health and support development. Close liaison with children and caregivers will be an essential part of the role.

Experience of experimental and analytical software and programming is essential for this role. The successful candidate will have experience in quantitative research methods and using common software packages for data entry and analysis, and the ability to communicate professionally and sensitively to build relationships with different stakeholders and engage well with participants from a variety of backgrounds. This role will require flexibility to work with participants occasionally during evenings and weekends.

Please email recruitment@annafreud.org with any job enquiries, or if you require assistance or experience difficulties when applying. Please note that successful candidate(s) will be asked to evidence their Right to Work in the UK post-job offer – we do not hold a sponsor licence therefore we are unable to provide Visa sponsorship.
