The Bartlett School of Planning at UCL is a research-led planning school at the forefront of tackling major urban priorities and challenges. As an interdisciplinary centre of excellence, it plays a leading role in shaping debates in the fields of urban planning, urban studies, geography, urban design, and real estate. It also offers a range of innovative taught programmes on planning and the built environment.

About the role

The School is seeking to appoint one Lecturer (Teaching) in Urban Economies and Planning to strengthen its capacity in delivering our UG and PG programmes, from 1 September 2024. The post is a Grade 8 (£51,474-£60,521 pro rata), 3-year fixed term position at 0.7FTE (25.6 hours per week).

The appointee will be directly involved in the delivery of undergraduate and Masters programmes in the fields of fields of spatial planning, local and regional development, and urban and economic geography.

About you

Essential requirements of the role:

  • Awarded PhD in the field of planning, urban studies, or a related discipline
  • Teaching specialism in urban economies and planning
  • Ability to supervise student research at various levels
  • Experience in leadership of modules, curriculum design and assessment of student work
  • Demonstrable ability in teaching and other forms of public representation
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills
  • An ability to undertake academic administration
  • Understanding of the needs and challenges that characterise the BSP’s cohort of students
