The role

Working within the Net Zero Carbon and Sustainability Team at the University of Bristol, the Environmental Supervisor (Waste and Resources) role holder will be assisting in the management of key waste and recycling services and delivering a variety of projects to embed the Circular Economy principles across the University’s operation.

The role offers an exciting opportunity to impact on how the University manages it’s material resources, delivers on its environmental obligations and ultimately on how it meets it’s ambitions of becoming Net Zero by 2030.

This is a fixed term contract to cover maternity leave until September 2025, or the earlier return of the post holder.

What will you be doing?

The role of Environmental Supervisor (Waste and Resources) has a wide variety of tasks ranging from data analysis and reporting to support the tracking of the University’s waste and recycling metrics to working with staff and students to prevent waste from happening, reuse and recycle as much as possible.

You will be planning, implementing and developing circular economy projects and campaigns including our internal furniture and equipment system ReStore.

The role will also be working with our contractors to resolve operational issues and continuously improve the services to maximise diversion and recycling. You would be involved in the monitoring and development of the University’s ISO14001 Environmental Management System working with a variety of internal and external stakeholders on internal audits and process improvement.

You should apply if

We are looking for a candidate with relevant experience in the waste management industry, ideally with managing hazardous waste streams such as WEEE and clinical waste.

You will have sound understating of the environmental legislation and the associated obligations (for example Duty of Care obligations) and has experience managing this.

You will be required to have good IT skills and be an effectively communicate with a varied range of audiences (oral, written, presentation skills and engagement skills).

You should be an excellent team player, be self-motivated and have the ability and willingness to be flexible and positively and proactively solve problems.
