The School
Established in 1955 as an integral part of the School of Advanced International Studies of the Johns Hopkins University (SAIS), SAIS Europe in Bologna, Italy has been educating global leaders in the area of international affairs for almost 70 years. As a highly-selective graduate institution with a distinguished faculty, SAIS consistently ranks as one of the top schools of international relations in the world. SAIS was founded to provide a practical approach to training students in international leadership and foreign relations, and to provide mid-career educational opportunities for those already working in related fields. Today, SAIS Europe hosts around 200 full-time students hailing from 40 countries pursuing master- and doctorallevel degrees, with a diverse, international group of over 60 resident and adjunct faculty. The Position
SAIS Europe is currently seeking to fill a tenured faculty position in European Politics. We are especially interested in scholars whose work is relevant to the linkage between domestic and international politics. While we welcome applications from all disciplines, preference will be given to scholars who conduct empirical research and have a background in political science, sociology, history, and related disciplines. The position will be at the associate or full professor rank with tenure. The position is based at the Bologna, Italy campus of SAIS. Candidates will be expected to teach primarily in the master’s programs in International Affairs and European Public Policy. The expected teaching load is 3 classes per academic year.
Qualifications
Candidates will be expected to have an active research agenda, a strong publication record and be among the leading scholars of their field. Preference will be given to candidates who combine outstanding research, proven excellence in teaching, policy relevance, and experience in the public square. The appointments will ideally start on 1 July, 2025.
