Lead the development of Birmingham City University’s apprenticeship strategy, working collaboratively with academic leaders and professional services teams, to raise the profile of the university’s higher skills and apprenticeships offer with employers locally and nationally.

About the role.
The role of Assistant Director: Apprenticeship Development and Employer Engagement is a new leadership post at Birmingham City University. Working within the Student & Academic Services directorate and with academics across the University, the person appointed will be instrumental in shaping and executing our strategy for apprenticeships and higher skills, aiming to establish its prominence as a leading provider of higher and degree apprenticeships in the UK.
The post holder will lead the development and implementation of strategic initiatives to maximise income generation, develop key employer partnerships, and influence policy within the apprenticeship sector. They will design and lead a new team to drive employer engagement, apprentice recruitment and support, whilst ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.
Who we are looking for.
Our ideal candidate will bring a robust blend of leadership, business planning, and stakeholder engagement skills, with a proven track record of successfully developing and managing apprenticeship programmes and a solid understanding of higher and degree-level apprenticeships.
Thorough knowledge of the national skills agenda and apprenticeship funding requirements is essential, alongside excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to enable the production of high-quality, data-driven reports and strategies.
The right person will thrive in an influential and commercially focused leadership role, capable of building and inspiring a new team from the ground up.
