Applications are invited for an appointment as Lecturer (Type B) in Agricultural Sciences and Technology at University of Galway.
The new School of Biological and Chemical Sciences in the College of Science and Engineering at the University of Galway invites applications for lecturer contract type B, commencing September 2024 or as soon as possible thereafter. Applications are welcome from candidates with strong and broad expertise for teaching agricultural biosciences, and with research activities that would complement the major thematic research areas of the school (in particular “Sustainable World”). The post-holder will be expected to act as the Coordinator of the Masters programme in AgriFood Sustainability and Technology (MScAST), and to deliver lectures, modules and activities (including research project supervision) within the MScAST programme. The MScAST programme provides an interdisciplinary education for students which improves their knowledge, skills and skills for competitiveness in the agriculture and agrifood sector in Ireland and globally. The programme also has a strong emphasis on innovation, enterprise and entrepreneurship in the sector, along with a research project that builds upon each student’s skills and career interests. The new lecturer will be expected to collaborate with other members of the School and the Ryan Institute. The successful candidate will be aligned to the following theme of the school:
The successful candidate will employ state-of-the-art teaching methods, including employing cutting-edge research informed and problem-based-learning, to: (i) develop students’ technical skills in agriculture, agribiosciences and agrifood topics; (ii) imbue critical systems thinking necessary to tackle sustainability challenges facing the agrifood sector in Ireland and globally. To complement and reinforce existing expertise in the school, the candidate should have a strong background in Agricultural Biosciences, with a strong understanding of how research and innovations can be deployed for impact by public and private sector agrifood sector partners.
