Media Officer

The Communications and Public Relations team is seeking to appoint a full time Media Officer.

The Communications and Public Relations team provides a centralised service for both internal and external communication, combining media and public relations, student and alumni communications and public events expertise, to reflect corporate objectives and uphold and enhance the University’s reputation.

The main duties of the role are as follows;

• Creative editorial duties: producing high-quality written content, including researching, copywriting (news and features), editing and proof-reading.
• Media duties: maximizing positive exposure for the University by identifying strong stories from across the University, producing well written features and timely and accurate news releases. Monitoring media and providing responses as required in the interests of the University’s reputation.
• Build and maintain a strong network of contacts across the University, to inform a consistent and steady stream of good news.
• Wider stakeholders: building sustainable contacts with journalists and communications professionals locally, regionally and nationally, including with specialist outlets and sector-specific organisations.
• Support the work of the Senior Media Officer/Deputy Director of Public Relations and Communications in delivering a professional service.          

You will have a good standard of education with at least a first degree or equivalent as well as a relevant professional communications qualification. You will have experience of working in a communications team and writing, sub-editing, proofing and producing content for multiple channels.

This demanding role requires good communication, organisational and interpersonal skills and the ability to contribute positively to a busy team.
