Hours: Full Time
Contract Type: Permanent
Placed On: 12th August 2024

The University of Oxford is a stimulating work environment, which enjoys an international reputation as a world-class centre of excellence. Our research plays a key role in tackling many global challenges, from reducing our carbon emissions to developing vaccines during a pandemic.

Department

The Data Quality Team (DQT) monitors the quality of student data in the student record system (SITS:Vision), runs programme set-up and system data configuration (e.g. annual rollover of records), compiles and submits 4 statutory data returns, works closely with Graduate Studies Assistants in Divisions and Departments to monitor key areas of postgraduate student data and coordinates and facilitates the University's Student Registration process.

The Data Analyst will be responsible for the preparation and production of four key student statutory returns to the Higher Education Statistics Agency (HESA), and will also have oversight of student registration, which is a vital process to capture student information and confirm its accuracy, with much of the collected information feeding into statutory reporting.

What we offer

As an employer, we genuinely care about our employees’ wellbeing and this is reflected in the range of benefits that we offer including:

  • An excellent contributory pension scheme
  • 38 days annual leave
  • A comprehensive range of childcare services
  • Family leave schemes
  • Cycle loan scheme
  • Discounted bus travel and Season Ticket travel loans
  • Membership to a variety of social and sports clubs

This role also offers the opportunity for hybrid working.

About the role

Due to the promotion of the current postholder, a vacancy has arisen in the Data Quality Team for an experienced Data Analyst. The Data Quality team is small (6 FTE) and specialist and enjoys an open and collaborative culture with regular cross-team meetings and collective problem solving.

The primary focus of the role will be supporting statutory reporting, using tools such as SQL Developer and Alteryx Designer to extract and transform data from the student records system (SITS:Vision). There will be extensive quality assurance work to ensure that the data submitted to HESA is of a high standard and meets validation and quality rules. The post holder will also have line management responsibility for a Student Records Officer and oversight of the Student Registration process.

About you

You are technically confident, fully conversant with database design and have experience in the configuration and management of records and tables within a complex records system. You are able to analyse and interrogate data from databases and have an analytical and methodical approach to investigating problems and resolving issues.

You have proven line management experience, with excellent coaching and development skills. Your strong organizational skills allow you to handle multiple projects and conflicting deadlines – often working under pressure but remaining calm and methodical. You are a strong communicator and a team-player who can work with people from different backgrounds and at all levels within the collegiate University.

Application process

You will be required to upload a covering letter/supporting statement, CV and the details of two referees as part of your online application.

The closing date for applications is 12noon on 6th September 2024.

Interviews will take place during week commencing 23rd September 2024 and will be held in-person in central Oxford.
