About the Opportunity
At the University of Salford, we are proud to be at the heart of the world-leading innovations around social change and economic development that have defined Salford and Greater Manchester since the industrial revolution and transformed it into the thriving city region it is today – a place where ideas are formed that shape the world. The Senior Research Support Officer is an exciting opportunity to support this work. Based in the Research and Knowledge Exchange Directorate, you will coordinate the administrative support provided to academic colleagues developing applications for external research funding. This will include acting as the first point of contact for academic queries around research governance, working on topics linked to compliance, due diligence, and secure research.
What will the Role involve?
We are seeking someone with experience of providing excellent administrative support, ideally within a Higher Education setting or equivalent. You will assist with a diverse portfolio of research funding applications. This will include navigating applications to a variety of sponsors, for example Research Councils, Charities, Government Departments and the European Commission. You will also work on awareness raising around secure research, ensuring that the necessary checks and licenses are in place to comply with internal and external due diligence and governance policies. The role will involve building relationships with academics across the University, in order to support the creation of research applications in line with funders’ expectations, the University’s funding application submission processes, and relevant governance policies and legislative frameworks (including the Export Control Order and the National Security Act).
You will work with colleagues from all areas of Research and Knowledge Exchange, particularly other members of the Funding Development team, to add value to activities across research development, planning, and collaborative R&D with business. You will line manage the Research Support Officer and will have a close working relationship with the Research Policy and Governance Manager.
What’s in it for you?

Generous annual leave - An impressive 32 days leave, plus bank holidays, additional time off at Christmas and the opportunity to buy even more!
