An EPSRC-funded Postdoctoral Research Associate (PDRA) position is available in the Department of Eye and Vision Science at the University of Liverpool. You will join the research groups of Dr. Lucy Bosworth (Biomaterials and Tissue Engineering) and Dr. Kevin Hamill (Cell and Molecular Biology). This multidisciplinary project focuses on how synthetic scaffold structures (e.g., topography, geometry, and biophysical properties), which mimic the underlying extracellular matrix, govern basement membrane assembly and influence cell behaviour. The data generated from this project will be used to support follow-on research grants, where more fundamental rules of life questions may be answered and/or the development of novel therapeutics that support tissue regeneration will be created.
Based on the main University of Liverpool campus, you will conduct laboratory experiments and produce high-quality, reproducible data. You will predominantly study cell-matrix biology and its interactions on biomaterial scaffolds with purposefully designed geometries. Some material characterisation will also be performed to further determine the influence of a material on cell behaviour.
Applicants should have, or be about to obtain, a PhD in a relevant scientific discipline, for example, a Cell Biology-related subject, Tissue Engineering, or Biomaterials. Full training and support will be provided in all aspects of the work.
The post is available from 2nd September 2024 until 28th February 2025.
If you are still awaiting your PhD to be awarded you will be appointed at Grade 6, spine point 30. Upon written confirmation that you have been awarded your PhD, your salary will be increased to Grade 7, spine point 31.
