We are seeking a highly motivated and organised Research Technician to join our dynamic team, supporting research activities across two cutting-edge laboratories: the Splice Lab, headed by Dr Kif Liakath-Ali and the Electrophysiology Lab headed by Dr Mariana Vargas-Caballero. This position offers a unique opportunity to gain experience in diverse research techniques, contribute to innovative projects, and develop your career in a collaborative academic environment.

Key Responsibilities:

General Duties (Common to Both Labs):

  • Assist with health and safety duties, ensuring compliance with all institutional guidelines.
  • Manage ordering of supplies and reagents, maintaining accurate inventory records.
  • Perform general laboratory maintenance to ensure smooth operation of research activities.
  • Participate in experimental work, providing technical support to ongoing research projects.

Specific Duties in the Splice Lab:

  • Conduct cell culture work, including the maintenance and preparation of cell lines.
  • Assist with RNA processing tasks, such as extraction, quantification, and quality control.
  • Contribute to omics analysis, including RNA sequencing and data interpretation.

Specific Duties in the Electrophysiology Lab:

  • Assist with field recording electrophysiology experiments, including setup and data collection.
  • Analyse electrophysiological data, contributing to the interpretation of results.
  • Support the development and optimization of electrophysiology protocols.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Neuroscience, Biochemistry, or a related field.
  • Previous laboratory experience, particularly in cell culture or electrophysiology, is highly desirable.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
