Lecturers in Computer Science
The Department of Computer Science at the University of Bath has vacancies for academic appointments across its four main research groups.
Whichever group you join, your research interests may engage across the groups in the department: Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, Human-Computer Interaction, Visual Computing, and Mathematical Foundations of Computation.
The AI & ML group includes experienced AI researchers such as Prof Nello Cristianini, Prof Özgür Simsek and Prof Mike Tipping alongside a strong and growing group of early career researchers.
This supportive and inclusive environment provides many opportunities to develop and progress.
The HCI group enjoys a rich legacy as one of the most accomplished HCI groups in the UK, with a strong technical HCI focus.
With a track record of success spanning decades, we've consistently been at the forefront of shaping the future of how we interact with technology.
The MathFound group is a leading centre for developing the mathematics of computer science, with a focus on lambda calculi and proof nets, denotational semantics, computer algebra and symbolic computation, and applied proof theory.
The group is expanding and has already recruited several new members who will start during the 2024-25 academic year.
The Visual Computing group is highly regarded internationally and very successful in research publication and grant capture. We focus on computer vision and computer graphics and cross over into machine learning, human-computer interaction and applications in entertainment and healthcare. Our research and our strong industry connections offer the group clear routes to impact.

We are a highly collaborative, diverse and interdisciplinary team, working not only across the research groups in our department but also across the university and far beyond.
As a department, we will offer you support and growth opportunities, including career mentoring, opportunities to progress, manage and lead, access to our network of application sector partners including entertainment, sport, healthcare, and technologies. You will offer us a strong academic record and the ability and enthusiasm to create an engaging experience for our excellent students.
What you will do as a Lecturer
Research and impact
You will work with colleagues, students and researchers to develop and publish papers. You will apply for research funding to support your ideas. You will find ways of making your research available to society, for example, by working with industry, developing spin outs, collaborating with charities, influencing policy makers or delivering talks and demonstrations to excite wider audiences.
Teaching
You will design and deliver teaching materials for lectures, tutorials, and labs. You will be educating and inspiring some of the brightest students in the country, delivering an engaging experience and a exciting curriculum.
Helping with the running of the department
You’ll have a few internal roles to help the Department run smoothly. You might help with student placements, ethics processes, recruitment, and admissions or lead a research team.
If you would like to talk informally about the role, please contact Professor Eamonn O’Neill, maseon@bath.ac.uk, Head of Department, or Professor Özgür Şimşek, os435@bath.ac.uk, Deputy Head of Department.
Interviews are planned to take place on the 25, 26, 27 November and 2 and 3 December.
