About the role:

The Department of Mechanical Engineering has an exciting new endeavour as part of the Vehicle Futures Hub (VFH). This is an exceptional opportunity for anyone looking for a new challenge and to help build something with long term impact!

The VFH is a brand-new centre for the development of new and emerging technologies in relation to transport; land, sea and air! The Centre will strive to enhance collaborations between world leading experts to integrate sustainable technologies, with economic viability, and performance & reliability, with the overall goal of contributing towards a bright future of transportation.

In addition, the Centre plans to launch a new Master degree programme to train the next generation of engineers and experts to drive innovation forward across generations!

This Research Development Manager will be integral to launching the centre and it operational basis within Imperial College and the wider research and industrial sector. Liaising heavily with the VFH Executive Board and existing College support teams, the postholder will support the development of the hub’s strategic direction, financial portfolio, Academic involvement (including recruitments and collaborations), operational systems and resourcing, and postgraduate curriculum.

What you would be doing:

  • You will be responsible for establishing and managing the daily operations of the VFH, including developing terms of reference, coordinating & participating in the Executive Board, advocating for resource and space, and creating appropriate record keeping.
  • You are going to be integral to the building of relationships with key partners on behalf of the hub (internal and external). This will include arranging events and meetings to market the hub, reporting back to funders, and engaging with key Industrial partnership support teams within Imperial.
  • You will coordinate the development of a new Taught Postgraduate programme, working with course leaders and other Imperial teams to establish a timeline for launch and involvement in resourcing support for the degree programme.

What we are looking for:

  • You are educated to a degree level in a STEMM subject (or equivalent professional qualifications and experience).
  • You will have significant experience in programme or project management, including managing stakeholders and arranging meetings & events.
  • Knowledge of the current challenges facing transport research is important.
  • You can communicate with a wide range of audiences effectively and professionally, including being able to give presentations and submit reports.
  • You have a high level of attention to detail, along with a propensity for initiative and problem solving.
