About us
The Reeves lab is housed in the new state of the art £55m Institute of immunity & Transplantation with close links to the Royal Free hospital – a major transplant centre. Our lab is interested in human cytomegalovirus – a major pathogen in immune-compromised people – with interests that span basic science through to translational applications. In particular, we have a longstanding interest in deciphering the molecular details of the host and viral mechanisms that control lifelong latency and reactivation; key immunological functions important for control of HCMV (in collaboration with Mark Wills, Cambridge); and the identification of novel targets for an effective HCMV vaccine.
About the role
The specific role is supported by an MRC programme grant which seeks to understand the molecular mechanisms that control human cytomegalovirus latency and identify the key immune mechanisms important for control of HCMV infection and disease.
The post holder will work alongside the PDRA appointed to the role and will be responsible for maintaining lab stocks, general tissue culture, as well as perform experiments as defined by the PDRA and PI.
The post holder will also contribute to the day to day supervision of UG and MSc students hosted in the lab.
The position is available for 3 years in the first instance.
About you
You will be a self-motivated individual with a curious mind who holds a BSc in a relevant subject (e.g. virology or molecular biology). You will have experience working in a laboratory with an emphasis on demonstrable tissue culture and core molecular biology skills. You will be conscientious and diligent with excellent time keeping skills and highly responsive to changes in demand.
Experience working under category II conditions or with Hazard group 2 pathogens is desirable.
Please see the attached job description and person specification for full details. Please also read the attached Candidate Guidance document.
All applications must include a supporting statement, telling us, using examples, how you meet the essential criteria listed in the job description. Applications without a supporting statement will be rejected.
